HP MediaSmart TVs go nationwide

Some HD gear seems to take forever to hit the streets. HP's latest MediaSmart TVs were announced at CES about nine months ago and while they've been available in select locations, now HP is happy to let us know they're going nationwide. Both the 42-inch and 47-inch 1080p network-enabled LCD HDTVs are going to be coming to a store near you, for $2,099 and $2,499 respectively. So, if your requirements for your next HDTV include access to snapfish, Real Rhapsody and Live365 Radio, -- as well as just about anything else on your computer -- these sets are worth a look.

Respectable price for a TV-set with built in WiFi allowing streaming.


But the price isn't low enough. For $2 000 I can get a 42 inch 1080p screen from a respectable brand plus an Xbox 360 premium + WiFi or an Apple TV.

This doesn't cut it for me.

Costco has a 46" Sceptre 1080p (1900x1200) for $1300.

This kind of all-in-one bundling worries me a bit...how frequently will I get updates for tv firmware...cause you know ver 1 won't work out of box. Not as often as a software vendor specializing in such things I would think.

They have some HP televisions at Best Buy on the giant wall. They stand out because the lag is so bad on these, the picture changes a whole second after all of the other televisions.

I don't get it. It's got some video player on it or something? How the heck do you control what it is going to stream? I really don't understand.
