The whole Wintel PC industry need to learn something from Apple how to name and promote its product lines. It's not that Apple has outstanding brand names.
But hell, any *human* *readable* name would be magnitudes better than hideous "d4890y".
This is one if the reasons I was buying Apple hardware recently. Wintel/PC sales were all getting confused with the stupid PC model numbering schemes. Add here availability problems and all the tiny price fluctuations - buying PC at times can be next to impossible: "Oh no, model 504030-666-25 we have spoken about yesterday isn't available anymore. Though we have 504030-666-26 in stock: it costs more and its specs are not available yet. Are you going to buy it?" That's pretty much my experience trying to buy Toshiba laptop two winters ago.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
