DIRECTV launches Sat-Go portable satellite TV system
Satellite provider DIRECTV has released the Sat-Go, their first portable satellite receiver with an integrated 17-inch LCD display. It sports a briefcase form factor, with the dish, tuner, and display all built in, and can be operated using either AC or DC power sources. It can also connected as a second satellite tuner when you're not traveling, and it has S-video and component inputs for throwing content on the LCD at up to 1280x1024 -- not widescreen, but still capable of 720p. Existing customers can purchase the unit for $1,499, and it should also be available soon at retail locations. Now you can fulfill your dream of watching NFL Sunday Ticket while tailgating at the big game, or checking out When Animals Attack! while actually getting mauled on safari.Read - DIRECTV Release

I remember seeing a review of something just like this a few years ago on TechTV. They were out watching some TV on the beach. Is this just a new revision or was the same product just delayed this long?

Pretty cool. I wonder what sort of tools they throw in to help you aim it?
paloooz @ May 3rd 2007 6:29PM
The same tools that XM and Sirius Radio give you to help aim your car...

Whoever buys this is a television obsessed loser.
That said, I feel horrible admitting I want one.
randy @ May 3rd 2007 5:47PM
Direc-TV? No thanks. Somebody wake me up when their HD is lossless.
jdang307 @ May 3rd 2007 6:04PM
I ain't no expert but isn't lossless HD pretty bandwidth intensive?
randy @ May 3rd 2007 6:24PM
Not unless you need to make room for your 245 channels of fluff nobody watches, like QVC3, ChurchNet, Shop!NBC and Oxygen en Español.
Terrestrial (ATSC) is usually lossless.
jdang307 @ May 3rd 2007 6:35PM
But someone watches those things. Usually stay at home moms/dads/losers!
Jeff @ May 3rd 2007 5:56PM
...yeah, because heaven forbid the HDTV you're watching in the freakin' FOREST would show signs of any signal loss. :rolls eyes:

They help me aim my car? Wow. Gotta get some of that Lalapalooza.
paloooz @ May 3rd 2007 7:09PM
Point is, I don't think you have to aim it.
Ryan @ May 3rd 2007 6:38PM
Now what about Direct TV partnering with ooo say Alienware and building a laptop with the Satelite build in so you could watch tv and do other things to make this whole breif case thing worth carrying around... I mean honestly how many of you would want a laptop with sattelite tv in it.. just think of the possibilities....

Randy,
There's no such thing as LOSSLESS HD. Lossless HD at, 1280x720p, 60hz @ 24bpp (bits per pixel, 8bit per color)= 158 MByte/Sec. NO WAY you're gonna strean that over any medium. ATSC HD specifies a full 6MHz of spectrum, and with very good S/N ratio, you might get 30Mbit/s out of it. That means = 158 MBYte/s * 8 bits/byte / 30 Mbit/s = 42 channels or 250 MHz of spectrum....
think again

Of course you have to aim it, and to the answer the question, the case as a compass built in. Do a little bit of clicking and you'll see it.
