There is no indication that this device actually plays HD content. It just scales SD content to HD resolutions. This is similar to the limitation of the XBOX Media Center. The XBMC does play 720p content if the bitrate is low enough, but 1080i is a nogo.
For it to be an Apple TV killer, it would need wireless connectivity to a computer and an auto streaming interface. I'm looking for the multimedia hdd that can record off my tv set as well as play files on it.
