Bush 15.4-inch HD-ready TV aims low, fails
The quixotic race to make the world's smallest HDTV got a little tighter today with this 15.4-inch TV / DVD combo from Bush. Featuring 720p resolution and an HDMI port, it's not the smallest HD-ready panel we've ever seen, but it's certainly the smallest you can actually go out and buy. While you probably won't be using this little guy to settle that 1080i-vs-1080p debate, we're not going to complain about hi-res panels filtering down to even the cheap-o TV / DVD player combo level. We are going to complain about the ridiculous £250 ($500) this thing will set you back, though, as well as the lack of a Freeview tuner, which means you'll need some kind of external box to view any HD content. No deets on availability, but with a plethora of solid 19- to 22-inch HD-ready displays at that price point, it's not like anyone's really chomping at the bit here.

The quality of Bush. Take Walmarts quality, and divde it by 20. Its crap. My advice, put up with your SD TV.

Who cares that it doesnt have Freeview, we dont get free over the air HD content in the UK, let alone on freeview.
We'd still need a seperate box anyway.

they cant even legally sell that in the US after May as an HDTV if it doesnt have an ATSC tuner can they?
Chuckles McGee @ Apr 28th 2007 4:51PM
Pish. 15.4- that's a monitor size, not a TV.
pikkoz @ Apr 28th 2007 5:05PM
A 15" pc multimedia monitor with a tv tuner that cost 500$? That's impressive.
tiuk @ Apr 28th 2007 5:30PM
Wow, that's hilarious.

Bush = Failure. Again.

Who the hell is Bush? ;-)
TIMMAH! @ Apr 28th 2007 6:39PM
I've never paid for Bush and don't intend to start now...
ranron @ Apr 28th 2007 7:19PM
My advice: Pay $230, get a 20-inch Dell widescreen monitor. It even support HDCP.
Bob Miller @ Apr 28th 2007 9:10PM
It would not be legal in the US because it is has an UHF/VHF tuner and is NTSC compatible. If it was a monitor it would be legal. Since it has a tuner it must have an ATSC tuner as well.

Bush is a UK (or Europe) specific brand slapped on many cheapo products found here. I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft stick.
It wouldn't be sold in the US, so who cares about dollar prices?
Everything here is far more expensive. That 20" Dell Ws, for example - add another $100 and you're talking *almost* their current offer on it, over here. Many people pay full price for it, which comes in as £272 ($545).
kingofwale @ Apr 28th 2007 8:48PM
Vizio is the cheapest brand of television anybody should trust. any cheaper than that, you are getting literally garbage.

I fail to see the point in buying (or selling!) /any/ TV in the UK now without DVB-T support, especially with analogue signals due to be discontinued from /next year/ in some regions. Using extra decoder stbs is a pain, as it just adds an extra box, more cables, and another remote to hunt for when you only want to change channel.

As far as "HD-ready panels" go, this is definitely not the smallest. Pro video/film industry has much smaller (see http://www.red.com/store/product_detail/9 for an example - it's a 5.6" 720p display).
This Bush one may be the smallest consumer-target, maybe :) But not smallest...
Gary @ Apr 28th 2007 10:06PM
wow, a Bush that is overpriced an under-delivers, who would have thought?
Sly @ Apr 29th 2007 5:40AM
£250 ...... that means $300 if it were sold in the US, not too bad for an HDTV. We love to pay twice as much for everything as the rest of the world here in the UK, its so we can boast how rich we are (at least I'm pretty sure thats the reason, I can't think of another one?).
h @ May 9th 2007 12:28PM
with a name like that, its bound to fail
Rick Lyon @ Apr 30th 2007 10:06AM
I just got a 19" HD, HDMI, QAM tuner from Costco for $300. I can buy a DVD for $20 now, so this is WAY overpriced.

Philips has a 15" Magnavox brand HDTV with a built in ATSC and QAM tuner. It works great. I keep it in my kitchen and don't pay for an extra STB to get HD channels from my digital cable. I paid $99 after rebate. I don't think it is still available.
