Sony keeps the
BRAVIA train rolling today, announcing pricing and availability for not one but two
new 3LCD projectors. The 720p VPL-AW10 and VPL-AW15 projectors both feature the same 165-watt 1,100 lumen lamp, 1.6x zoom lens and 20dB fan noise. The VPL-AW10 uses Advanced Iris technology to provide a 6,000:1 contrast ratio, while the VPL-AW15 improves to 12,000:1 "dynamic" contrast ratio with its Advanced Iris 2 technology, and increased installation options due to its lens shift. Both will accept 1080p/24 sources and downscale to 720p. Sure its not the 1,920x1,080 number that impresses the neighbors like their big brothers Ruby and
Pearl, but these two will cost only $1,300 (VPL-AW15) and $1,000 (VPL-AW10) when they ship in June. We're sure home theater builders on a budget will find a way to love these two, even if they don't have that magic 1080p number.

am I the only one who thinks Sony's products are all sometimes linked to promote each other??
Think about it, Sony used PS3 to popularize DVD format
Sony popularized HDMI by adding it in every TV, COnsole, player
Sony popularized 1080P by having it in EVERY TV and projectors
and now they are using it to popularize their Blu-Ray
very smart. it doesn't always work, but they seem to have a plan for everything.

Nice Sony. I could go into a store LAST YEAR and buy a similarly spec'd projector from a competitor at these prices. Actually, I did. I don't understand why Sony thinks they can price their garbage so high. Or why people continue to buy their garbage.
Call me a troll if you want, but its true.

That's exactly what I was thinking. These would be pretty good at those prices about a year and a half ago, but today, better projectors can be had for less money.
www.projectorcentral.com see the highly rated section, and you'll find more image for less money based on in person reviews and specs.

I'm a regular reader of projectorcentral and these prices are fair and competitive. Since these are 720p LCD projetors, comparing them to what's listed on projectorcentral shows them to be lower or equal to models. If you compare based on MSRP, they're lower than the highly-ranked 720p models on Pcentral. Actual stree prices should knock both down to sub-$1000 levels. With high contrast and low dB, these two new models are a good option to consider when projector shopping. And they're especially good for many of us who dislike DLP and its rainbows.

Hasn't Sony been preaching that anything less than 1080p isn't "real" high def for the past year?

If it had more lumens, and we didn't already have an Optoma EP719, we would probably be sold.
