It's hard to decide. We're seeing so many great HDTVs every day like these two giants -- and
some not so giant -- but still, which one of these screens would we rather take home? On the left we've got Samsung's
old school 102-inch plasma, on the right Sharp's
new 108-inch 1080p Aquos LCD. Some people could be content with a mere 102-inch or even
103-inch screen and prefer plasma to LCD, but with
120Hz motion and other advancements coming off of Sharp's
8th-generation manufacturing line its impossible to say no to the new size king in town. Check out the gallery for a couple more pictures of both.

Awesome... I think 100 inches is going to be the next 60 inches.
Matt B @ Jan 9th 2007 11:10AM
I'm totally buying one of these..... in 5 years when the price is feasible.
andy @ Jan 9th 2007 11:34AM
I love it. If these guys actually offer these for sale, we're going to see some terrific price drops.
I mean, a 50" plasma is now 1700. The cheapest 58 or 60 is 3000. What's with that? Why the MASSIVE jump (double). A 42" is 1000 while 8 more inches is just 1700. Plotting that, it's several orders of exponential increase in price per inch. What gives?
I'd love to see these 100+ inch panels on sale, because they'll drive the wow factor (and subsequently the price) down on the 70-80 inch models; and I'll be there with bells on to buy one of those reasonably priced 70-80 inch screens.

I dont understand how people will spend so much on a tv. We have a projector and its 120". The price it great on projectors and they are in hd and are only around $1000. And you can make them as big as you want.

Hey, has anyone seen the new screens at the Jaguars
new stadium? It is a "Scram Screen" and it is FANTASTIC. Check it out. It's the Best thing in the world for viewing and sharpness and it will be the next generation of TV's on the market. Watch and learn grasshopper.

I don't think I could ever watch enough television to warrant buying a giant TV...LOL I have a 32" TV on my entertainment center in the living room, and it works great, and it's all I need. That's another disadvantage to one of thse things. Unless your living room is about 4000 square feet...LOL, you'd have to pitch your entertainment center, and then where would you put all your DVDs and videos?
beck @ Jan 10th 2007 12:38AM
LOL, Donna, that might be the big difference between guys and gals...i'm not sure who is conviencing who that size matters...sigh! ;-)
Wayne @ Jan 10th 2007 12:43AM
Size doesn't change the garbage they present on 'The Electronic Totiets'!
Wayne @ Jan 10th 2007 12:45AM
These Electronic Toliets are great! Problem is more & more trash coupled with more & more commercials and you still get nothing unless you pay extra (Cable, dish, Etc., etc.)
Drake @ Jan 10th 2007 2:22AM
I would LOVE to have a 108-inch lcd. Anyone who plays first-person shooter games like I do has been dreaming of a screen like that!
Wicked982JZGTE @ Jan 10th 2007 10:07PM
Just wondering Wayne, if you don't like TV or TV's then why do you read up on it? I don't go to Bingo Forums to let them know I don't like Bingo. Besides, nobodies forcing you to watch any "Totiets"
SANDY @ Jan 10th 2007 3:27AM
I suppose that this will sell like all other electronics sell, however, it's way too large for the middle class home. 70-80" are plenty large enough. I'll buy when the prices are reasonable in 4-5 years.
zach @ Jan 10th 2007 5:17AM
Frankly I don't understand what the "big " deal is anyway with these things.Maybe I'm just showing my age....I recently replaced my old 27" tube type in favor of a 32" LCD;my buying decision was largely made due to cometitive pricing of the LCD and lack of availability of the "obsolete" tube type. The only real rationale I can see with the buying frenzy of these larger sets is the "keeping up with the jones" mentality so many people exhibit these days ....I can think of better things to spend my money on rather than trying to impress my neighbors or friends.
Lynne @ Jan 10th 2007 5:51AM
Ok, my confession... when he decided to purchase the 51" television I just assumed we'd be sitting on top of it in our 1200 sq ft home. There were other things to spend the money on, blah blah blah. Now, two years later I will say I'm glad we have it. No more squinting and we can both sit comfortably on the couch and enjoy whatever we're watching. Would I want to go any larger? I think not, I also enjoy going to the movies... it's the only time we eat popcorn !!
conelectric @ Jan 10th 2007 8:52AM
What about the retail logistics with these 100 inchers? We're talking about taking up more space than a refrigerator at Best Buy or Circuit City. I guess they could pad the profit margins with service and setup and delivery. But if price cutting sets in like it has in smaller format LCDs & Plasmas I don't see the motivation for retailers to carry these monsters very long. Maybe some new kind of retailer will emerge to sell these products...

Of Course, it all depends on your setup. I live in Palm Beach County but I'm attending FAU. I have a Panasonic 50" (#1 50inch Plasma TV according to Consumer Reports). At least for my setup, There comes a point where the TV is too big, there are many variables when deciding what size to go to, I can't see going above 60" unless your watching from a farther than "normal" distance, like in a bar. If the TV's too big it's like sitting in the front seat of a movie theater. My Personal Setup is Perfect for me and my girlfriend even though since I have a Wireless Router, and my PS3 and XBox360's controller's are wireless I still have the same distance as I would have with wires, I just like it like that. Also, if you want your TV to not have side bars when watching regular TV, the bigger the TV, the more the picture is "off" due to the TV having a widescreen aspect ratio, this is where Panasonic really shines, Their Justify aspect ratio fills the screen, but the proportions seem correct without eliminating any of the picture itself, like most "Zoom" features do. The Point is, don't buy a TV to impress others, or because you think it's cool, buy what you will enjoy the most for your personal setup, Don't just go into a store and buy one without reading reviews from places such as consumer reports and other unbiased testers, and if you can't afford it, don't settle for less, save your money till you get what you want. Also, Confirm stuff you hear from friends or sales personell, there are alot of "myths" out there, particularly about Plasma TV's, and like most myth's they are based on a grain of truth, but, just like the new LCD's, the new Plasma's are nothing like the first generation ones.

With nine foot LCD and plasma television sets, the movie theaters will be driven out of business once the prices of these large sets comes down in a few years. Almost all feature films will be created in a digital format to meet these huge screen TVs' need as the cost of filming in an all digital format has decreased and pixel quality increased.

WHY WOULD ANYONE SPEND MORE MONEY TO WATCH MORE JUNK ON A HUGE FORMAT, YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING, WHATS BEING SHOWN ON TELEVISION TODAY IS A DISGRACE TO AMERICA, AND SHOWS WHAT DIRECTION THIS COUNTRY IS REALLY GOING, OUR GOVERNMENT HAS TRULY LET US DOWN, AND THEIR ARE THOSE WHO THINK THAT THEY CAN JUSTIFY WHAT'S BEING SHOWN ON T.V. WETHER IT BE THOSE WHO SUPPLY IT OR THOSE WHO WATCH IT, IT'S REAL SIMPLE SUCH PEOPLE ARE MISSING THE WISDOM TO SEE THE HARM THAT IT SUPPLIES, EARLY TELEVISION, EARLY HOLLYWOOD, AND EARLY GOVERNMENT HAD IT RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE, THEN THEY LET DOWN THEIR STANDARDS, AND LOOK WHAT WE HAVE AS A RESULT OF IT, SO LARGER T.V? NO THANKS! MY ONLY THOUGHTS LATELY IS SHOULD I GET RID OF WHAT TV'S THAT I HAVE, I NOW HAVE A STEDY T.V. DIET OF CNN, FOX, AND CLASSIC FILMS, SO MY MONEY STAYS IN THE BANK, ...YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS, BUT AROUND THIS COUNTRY, MANY FAMILES HAVE ALREADY THROWN OUT THEIR T.V. SETS BECAUSE OF THE PREVEIOUS MENTION REASONS, ...WHY? BECAUSE THEY GET IT!
James @ Jan 12th 2007 12:55PM
You can get a very good 12,000 lumin video projector with super sharp screaming bright picture for far less money and have a 20 foot screen for around $6,000.00 The video projectors today are not the same as they were when they came out 20 years ago.
