Why do all these devices need Media Center, or some other windows software installed to stream video? Why can't they just connect to a SMB share point and grab the media off there? That's what I really want. My modded xbox will do this, mostly. It won't do WMV9 or any HD content for that matter. Plus there's no way to turn it on remotely. What's the use of ripping all your DVDs only to have to get up anyway to turn it on. Once there's a CE device that will do this (that doesn't cost $1000), I'm in.

odd. my xbox will detect and properly play an hd divx file on my network share.

btw, I think that's my only complaint and the BIGGEST fault with the xbox in any respect. No power up/down via remote.
