I have one of these through Charter (My local cable company in Madison, WI), and I use it for HD programs.

The menus, options, and performance are improving with each firmware update. Other than that nifty little "bla-blup" sound that TiVos make, it really is a similar experience. At the end of the day, due to the overwhelming similarities in function, whatever is cheaper is my recommendation.
