CEDIA, taking time to check out Meridian Faroudja's latest high-end projector offering -- the D-ILA1080PMF1 -- retailing for a hefty $20,995.. If you stare at that model name for a bit, you should realize that this one sports full 1080p with
D-ILA technology backing it up, though the real stand-out spec seems to be its D65 reference color temperature, which should ensure that your colors are spot on. If there's one area where it comes up a bit short, however, it's inputs, with just RGB, s-video and DVI coming standard. You'll have to cough up another $5,000 for the processor upgrade to get a few more options -- according to HD Beat, it adds multiple progressive analog video outputs/inputs including RGBHV, component, RGBS and RGsB. Sure, $5,000 may seem like a lot for an add-on, but if you're throwing down $20k+ for a projector, we're guessing you can handle it.

What is up with the plethora of projectors covered by engadget? They were interesting for a while...

I don't care about 1080p projectors until they cost less than my car.
I really do want one, and I don't understand why they can't be made for cheaper, because my existing projector which was 1500 bucks 3 years ago is 1280x720 or so, and I really don't think 1920x1080 is THAT large a jump up that 3 years later, the projectors are still 10-20 times the cost...
But I'm not gonna lie at all, I really don't know anything about projector technology, so I'd love for someone to explain what's up.
Everyone (like Stephen) who keeps asking why engadget keeps covering the PJs has obviously never seen one running XBOX360, Football in HD or some other HD goodness. Trust me dude, seeing a projector in the theater doesn't qualify as having experienced it.
Besides, CEDIA is a home-theater centric convention. Other then shit-tastic Plasmas and LCD displays what do you expect them to report on....A/V receivers? Boring.
SED TVs on the other hand....we want to hear more about those though...

You can buy 1080p projectors for well under ten grand now with component. This thing is a non-starter.
I got to see this at CEDIA yesterday, and while not a fan of projectors it was the best demo I saw at the show - the DVD upscaling looked better than the Blu-Ray and HDDVD demos. Couple that with the Meridian 350 in-walls and you've got the best setup I've ever seen (and heard). You also have a second mortgage too though, but in this case it might be worth it!
What's the point of a 1080p projector without HDMI? Does it do HDCP over DVI?
