HDMI's mini-plug looks like this
Oh, for those not paying excruciatingly close attention, that HDMI 1.3 spec that we talked briefly about before also includes a mini-HDMI connector option for use with your portable devices -- say, camcorders for example. And just in time, too, as we certainly wouldn't want DisplayPort or UDI (Unified Display Interface) -- both of which being new display interconnect standards with rather small connectors -- to gain any undue traction in the market before the 800-pound gorilla's had its run of things.

Ya think they could change the SPEC again before next week???...
I do want to waste more money on something that is worthless and does not work any better than what I already have...
I mean I do have "All the Money in the World" and when they change it I can buy It!!...
So, this is what's going to kill Firewire and replace it with DRM?
I've never understood this whole "full-size" and "mini" thing when it comes to connectors. You end up over-complexificating things for the less technical (ie not the sort who read Engadget) and it means that you end up with at least two versions of any cable.
Why not make *all* the connectors small? One standard socket; no need to check what your devices use before buying the cable.
It will be easier to output video from HDMI than Firewire I think because of chips that will be available.
We should just have one universal connector standard period, imo.
However much bandwidth current technology can give it.
And however interferance proof the materials we can use can be.
And yes, it should be small too.
The *real* reason for the HDMI is the DRM indeed.
I hope consumers take a stand over this crap but i feel they wont.
Anyone got word on the new maximum length of the cable? I am figuring that since the bandwidth increased with the new spec, the maximum length probably decreased as a result.
I guess none of you ever heard of a USB that has a mini too and everyone seems fine with it.
usb is worse, usb has an A plug, B plug, and mini plug. making for 6 possible cables! Firewire has 2 plugs, 3 possible cables. hdmi is a nightmare, compatible with DVI for even more cables, now with mini!
Most equipment will still use the standard HDMI connector which will always be fitted to TVs, DVD and set top boxes. The small format will only be fitted to small equipment when necessary. Many users will be unaffected by this.
